The Ford flathead V8 is one of the most iconic V8 engines ever made. It helped launch hot rod culture and was so powerful John Dillinger once wrote to Henry Ford saying “I want to thank you for building the Ford V-8 as fast and as sturdy a car as you did.”

This awesome time-lapse showing the engine getting a full rebuild really shows off a motor that was originally launched in 1932. With 221 cubic-inches of displacement (3.6-liters) the flat V8 was an engineering marvel in its time thanks to its single-piece block casting, which included the cylinders and crankcase.
