Republican Senate Nominee: Victims Of ‘Legitimate Rape’ Don’t Get Pregnant news Todd Akins Science Republican Party medicine Idiots Abortion Politics

When will Republicans learn to stop running about pretending to be experts on human anatomy, climatologists or doctors?  I’m so incredibly tired of the bastardization of science and medicine, the two things I’ve devoted my life to studying, by these idiotic, ignorance touted as fact, lying, douche-bags.

Rep. Todd Akin is the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri.  He recently justified his opposition to abortion rights, even in case of rape, with the claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have biological defenses to prevent pregnancy.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Right…  Are Republicans truly this ignorant when it comes to understanding how the human body works?  ”Oh shit, I’ve been raped.  Initiate baby killing lasers!”  If you’ve made it through even the most basic of biology classes you know that’s a crock of crap.

Perhaps it’s a game of blame the rape victim part deux?  ”See?  You wanted to be raped.  Otherwise you would’ve killed the baby with your body!”

Akin said that he’d deny abortion to the rape victim even when the supposed natural protections fail.

“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something,” Akin said. “I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”

Unfortunately for Todd, facts seem to disagree with him as a 1996 study by the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists found the rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency and is a cause of many unwanted pregnancies.  How many exactly?  An estimated “32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year.”

Todd’s incredible abilities to make idiot sound like compliment don’t stop there though.  He has called for an end to the school-lunch program and a total ban on the morning-after pill and in 1991 pushed for an anti-marital-rape law.  Ain’t that special?

The truly scary part PollTracker shows Todd leading his opponent by a margin of 49.7 percent to 41.3 percent.  There’s no excuse.

Watch him actually spew this crap from his own mouth:
