Government Shutdown Imminent
U.S. politics makes for some of the best entertainment out there, unfortunately, unlike true entertainment it affects real people. We should have seen it coming. The last election was a penis-measuring, vulgar, slap-fight. How could we possibly expect a bunch of whiny gucci pant and skirt wearing suits to give a crap about being agreeable and put together a budget?
This is where that great South Park analogy about choosing between a giant douche and a turd sandwich comes in to play.
Are you a staunch Republican? A diehard Democrat? If you said yes to either question your right to vote should be taken from you. Very few people in this county seem capable of actually researching politicians before voting or they vote for entirely the wrong reasons. American voters caused this problem and the fault lies foremost on our shoulders.
The entire political atmosphere is polluted right now. 11 years ago Bush took office with a fiscal surplus. Republicans and to an extent Democrats spent the crap out of that surplus and left us with the incredible deficit we currently find ourself in. Oh and during the Bush years they told us a deficit didn’t matter, remember that?
Then we all lost our shit over the political rockstar Barack Obama, he filled his flock with thoughts of “Hope” and “Change.” Then he took office and pretty much kept things the same by continuing the wars, continuing the Bush tax cuts, keeping Guantanamo Bay open, etc… So much for that hope and change. Well, that’s not entirely true. He did start another war.
Then we voted in a Republican controlled house. Their current concern? The deficit. Oh, how quickly we forget. It didn’t matter before, now it’s the biggest issue in the house. Well, maybe one of the biggest issues in the house right behind the typical abortion and gay marriage battle and spending $100 million to emblazon “In God We Trust” on all Federal buildings. What the H is going on?
So here we sit. The people in charge can’t put together a budget and if they continue to fail through Friday, the government will shutdown.
A government shutdown would affect approximately 800,000 people – namely those considered “non-essential” by their government employers. People working in Air Traffic Control, for the US Postal Service, Homeland Security, etc. would continue to pump as cogs of the machine.
National parks and museums, however, would be in danger of closing. Oh and those idiots in charge that get paid the big bucks to sit around and argue and get us nowhere. The Congressmen? Yeah…you’re damn right they still get paid.
A government shutdown isn’t inevitable, but it’s starting to look more and more like it could happen once EOD rolls around on Friday. Why don’t they just tax the rich and legalize pot and tax the hell out of it. Problems solved.
