Unreal | ‘Unjunked’ Candy From a Dirty-Rich 15-Year-Old
Unreal candy is a line of “unjunked” versions of the most popular candies on the market. Unjunked in that the candy takes the corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, dyes, and preservatives found in candies like M&Ms and Reese’s cups and replaces them with organic blue agave nectar, organic palm oil, and other more natural ingredients. It is still candy though, so you would still be better off grabbing some nuts or dried fruit but I digress. The candy is sold at the same price point and on the same convenience store shelves as the “junk” candy they’re aiming to replace. A huge change from the traditional “junk”-free foods that can only be found on Whole Foods shelves for 5x the price.
UNREAL has unjunked Americas favorite candy. No corn syrup, no artificials, no hydrogenated oils, no preservatives, no GMOs, less sugar, more protein and fiber. Our candy tastes awesome…
The video above is pretty intense with notable celebs like Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Matt Damon, John Legend, and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey all singing Unreal’s praises. The video is almost too good, where did this startup get enough dough to make a organic product that competes with the big names and grab high profile celebrity endorsements to promote it?
Turns out ‘Unreal’ is the brainchild of a home-schooled 15-year-old in Brookline, MA, and was funded with a little help from his “millionaire father, entrepreneur and angel investor Michael Bronner.” Just so happens he is friends with Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, who “pledged to promote the start-up’s mission from their Twitter and Facebook feeds once it launches.”
Regardless, slightly more healthy candy bars are a good thing and a rich kid who is actually interested in changing the world for the better may be even better.
